One
of the hardest parts about relocating to a new city is that you have to leave
your friends behind at the old place. While the Internet and social media can
be a gateway to let you guys keep in touch from time to time, it still won't
feel the same since you can't see each other every day like you used to. While
your old pals back at the old city will still be there for you, it is also a
good idea to make some new friends at the new place.
USEFUL TIPS
BROUGHT TO YOU BY GOLAN'S MOVERS TO GET YOU ACQUAINTED WITH NEW PEOPLE
Being
the new guy or girl around the block can sometimes be nerve-racking, but it is
by no means impossible. Here are some great tips brought to us by Golan's Moving and Storage to assist you in making new friends at the new city.
Find something in common
What
better way to make new friends than to find out what you have in common. If
you've now settled in and have noticed some of your neighbors moving about, pay
attention to their daily routines. Find out if they have something they like
that is similar to what you admire. Similar hobbies perhaps?
Once
you get that similar thing, don't be afraid to go for small talk. Politely say,
"Hi, I'm your new neighbor." Go for some small talk. It won't hurt
you to try.
Find help from the kids
If
you have kids, and your neighbors have them as well, then do know it is often
easier to meet new neighbors with them. How? Well, kids are usually more open
to say Hi and Hello to other kids than us adults. So if they meet new kids,
they won't be too ashamed to invite them to play. You can then find the common
ground that you are looking for with your neighbors - which is your kids.
Volunteer in a neighborhood activity
One
of the best ways to meet the people in your neighborhood is for you to
volunteer in an upcoming activity or event. When you are in said activity, you
have no choice but to socialize with other people to get work done. This is a
great way to meet new friends.
Go to the local gym
If
you are into fitness, then do not just do all your workouts at home. Go to the
local gym and socialize with other fitness fanatics in there. Who knows, even
if you did get inside the establishment alone, you'll go outside as part of a
group.
